The best aftersun for summer

Sommerens bedste aftersun

Most of us long for the sun.

For warmth on our skin.
Bright evenings.
Days without socks and jackets.

But in Ayurveda, the sun is also something we approach with respect.

Because even though the sun gives energy, there can also be too much of a good thing.

Summer is pitta season

In Ayurveda, summer is associated with pitta dosha.

Pitta consists of fire and water and represents heat, energy, transformation, and intensity.

It is pitta that helps us digest our food, think clearly, and act.

But when the summer heat becomes very intense, pitta can increase more than the body thrives with.

This can manifest as:

• redness in the skin
• feeling hot
• irritation
• restlessness
• shorter patience
• lighter sleep
• feeling overheated

The body simply tells us that it needs more balance.

What to do if you've had too much sun?

Ayurveda does not work by combating heat with extreme cold.

Instead, it works by adding the opposite of pitta:

calm
coolness
moisture
slowness

This can include:

seeking shade
drinking plenty of fluids
choosing lighter meals
taking a lukewarm or cool bath
slowing down for the rest of the day

And not least, giving the skin the care it needs.

Cooling care for warm skin

When the skin has been exposed to a lot of sun, it often needs both moisture and calm.

Therefore, many find that Ayú's pitta products are particularly good during the summer months.

All products in the pitta series are developed with a focus on ingredients and essential oils that have a cooling and balancing effect.

Many therefore use the series as a natural part of their aftersun ritual.

Pitta mist

A few sprays on warm skin can feel like a small oasis on hot days.

Perfect after the beach, in the garden, or after a day in the sun.

Pitta Body Oil

After sun exposure, the skin often calls for nourishment.

Pitta oil helps to add moisture and restore balance to the skin.

A calm ritual after bathing can also help the body release the day's heat.

Pitta hand cream and soap

Hands also feel the summer.

After gardening, beach trips, and many hours outdoors, the cooling pitta products can be a great way to give the skin some extra care.

The sun is not the problem

In Ayurveda, balance rarely involves avoiding something.

It's about supporting the body in what it experiences.

The sun is one of summer's greatest joys.

But the body often feels best when it also gets a chance to cool down again.

A little shade.
A little calm.
A little more liquid.

And small rituals that help both skin and nervous system find their way back to balance.

A lukewarm bath at the end of the day

Many believe that an ice-cold bath is the solution after a hot day. But in Ayurveda, a lukewarm or slightly cool bath is often preferred.

This helps the body gradually release heat without creating a shock to the system.

Pitta oil after bathing

When the skin is still slightly damp after bathing, a thin layer of Pitta Body Oil can help restore the moisture balance.

The calm movements when massaging in the oil are almost as important as the oil itself.

Touch tells the nervous system that it's time to relax.

Pitta mist in the shade

A few quiet minutes in the shade with Pitta mist on your arms, legs, or neck.

Not while you're doing something else.

Just a moment where you pause.

Sometimes it's the break the body needs most.

Bare feet on the ground

Grass, sand, or a warm wooden deck.

Walking slowly barefoot is a simple way to create grounding after a day of many impressions.

Dinner without too much heat

After a hot day, the body often benefits from lighter meals.

Fresh herbs, cucumber, mint, coriander, and mild flavors help the body find more balance.

Watch the sunset

It sounds almost too simple.

But the sunset marks the transition from the day's pitta energy to the evening's calmer energy.

Sitting down and simply looking at the sky for 10 minutes can be one of summer's most underrated rituals.

Darkness and calm before sleep

Bright summer nights can keep the body more active.

Here, an Ayú silk sleep mask can be a small but effective ritual.

Darkness helps the body understand that the day is over and it's time to rest.

Do a little less

Perhaps the most Ayurvedic advice of all.

When pitta rises, many try to do even more.

But often, the opposite is what the body longs for.

A slower evening.
A calmer pace.
A moment without a phone.

Small things that don't seem like much, but help both skin and nervous system find their way back to the balance that summer sometimes challenges. 🌿
