Spring, Ayurvedic lightness, and a recipe

Forår, ayurvedisk lethed og opskrift

Nature is in motion. The light has returned, the earth is beginning to awaken, and many feel a new energy in their bodies.

In Ayurveda, spring is considered a transition from winter's heaviness to more movement and lightness. It is a period when the body naturally begins to release what it has accumulated during the cold months.

It can feel like fatigue, a little heaviness in the body, or a craving for fresh air and movement. Not because anything is wrong – but because the body is adjusting to a new rhythm.

From an Ayurvedic perspective, spring can be an opportunity to create a little more lightness in everyday life. Not through strict rules, but through small choices that support the body.

This can be:
• lighter meals
• a little more movement
• fresh air
• warm spices that support digestion

Small things that help the body transition from winter to spring.

Seasonal Food

In spring, Ayurveda often recommends meals that are a little lighter, warm, and gently spiced. This aids digestion and gives the body energy without feeling heavy.

A simple dish that is well-suited for spring days is a warm vegetable dish with spices that support digestion.

Ayurvedic Spring Stew

A simple and nourishing dish that is great during the transition period.

Ingredients (2–3 servings)
1 tbsp ghee or olive oil
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 carrot, diced
1 small zucchini, sliced
1 handful green lentils (or red lentils for a milder version)
1 tsp fresh grated ginger
1 tsp turmeric
½ tsp cumin
½ tsp coriander
salt to taste
approx. 5 dl water or vegetable broth
fresh parsley or coriander for garnish

Instructions
Heat ghee in a pot and sauté onion and ginger for a few minutes.

Add the spices and heat briefly to release their aromas.

Add carrot, zucchini, and lentils to the pot and pour in water or broth.

Let the dish simmer for about 20 minutes, until the lentils are tender. Season with salt and top with fresh herbs.

Serve warm – ideally with a squeeze of lemon or a spoonful of yogurt on the side.

A Quiet Transition

Spring doesn't have to be a time when we do more.
Often, it's just about adjusting a little.

A little lighter food.
A little more movement.
A little more light.

Ayurveda reminds us that the body already knows how to follow the rhythm of the seasons. Sometimes we just need to give it space to do so.
